Integrated control strategies deployed at the power network edge are critical to achieving a decarbonized grid

PITTSBURGH (July 13, 2023) – Global software and engineering leader Emerson is developing control strategies for an integrated grid automation ecosystem to help customers manage the real-time bidirectional information stream created by the rapid shift toward distributed energy. The new bundled Ovation™ grid edge technology stack leverages Emerson’s sustainable grid solutions to help users achieve a more resilient, responsible and smarter grid. 

As part of decarbonization efforts, utilities and grid operators are dealing with an ever-increasing array of edge-based assets, each providing critical data that is only valuable if it can be reliably collected, contextualized, and delivered to the people who need it. Emerson’s Ovation grid edge solutions will be part of an integrated ecosystem designed in step with a boundless automation vision—seamlessly moving data from the intelligent field through the edge, and into the cloud—eliminating the complexity of traditional architectures using multiple, differing systems communicating through a variety of protocols or proprietary software.

Emerson’s grid edge solutions will combine real time, high-resolution data from renewable and distribution level assets with information provided by field devices, distributed control systems and grid management software to provide clear operational visibility across the entire power network. The resulting contextualized data can then be fed into local control, remote control, monitoring and diagnostics centers to empower teams to optimize operations across the network quickly and efficiently.
