Improve Reliability and Energy Efficiency through Optimal Boiler Valve Control

Steam plays a hidden, yet vital role in the world that many take for granted, powering our homes and producing modern conveniences such as plastics, cardboard, tires, canned food, and medicine. Steam makes life more comfortable, safe, and affordable but steam generation is not simple. It is difficult to run an efficient, reliable, and safe boiler year in and year out through changing personnel and regulations with ever aging systems.

Emerson provides valve solutions and expertise to help you improve boiler control, protection, and isolation which are key to achieving safe operation, increasing reliability and optimizing performance, fuel cost and emissions. The quality of control, isolation, relief, and pressure reducing valves are the foundation for achieving your performance objectives.

Solutions in Action: Boiler Valves

Deaerator / Feedwater Tank

The deaerator utilizes steam to heat the make-up water and condensate return, which removes dissolved gases like oxygen and carbon dioxide to prevent corrosion and improve heat transfer in the boiler. The feedwater tank stores water for the boiler, buffering fluctuations in feedwater demand and condensate return rates.

Maintaining the appropriate pressure and temperature in the deaerator is critical for effective removal of non-condensable gases. Fluctuations can reoxygenate the feedwater and corrode piping and boiler tubes.

Low feedwater tank level can occur due to faulty level sensors and valves and cause cavitation damage in feedwater pumps.
